If you are still on a older iOS firmware version but you have decided to upgrade, here is how to do this and preserve your unlockable modem firmware (baseband).
1. First of all you will need to download the stock version of iOS 5.0.1. You can download it here.
2. Download the latest RedSn0w jailbreak tool from here: Mac version or Windows PC version.
3. Start the RedSn0w software on your computer and click on “Extras”.

4. Choose the “Custom IPSW” button.

5. Now you will be prompted to browse to the previously downloaded 5.0.1 firmware file.
6. RedSn0w will now do its thing on the firmware file.

7. After a short wait, this will be done and RedSn0w will save the custom made firmware file in the same folder where you saved the official IPSW file. The custom firmware file you just made will have the contain your original modem firmware (baseband) you wanted to save in order to be able to unlock later with UltraSn0w.

8. After you confirm with OK you will be back on the screen with options again. This time select Pwned DFU mode. This will help you to restore your iPhone to the created custom firmware. Follow the DFU instructions carefully.

9. If your device is indeed in DFU mode, the screen will become completely black. Open your iTunes and press and hold shift and restore. Point iTunes to the custom made 5.0.1 firmware. Itunes will now restore your iPhone 3GS to the custom iOS 5.0.1. You are done and your iPhone is upgraded to iOS 5.0.1 with the baseband preserved. You need also to jailbreak the device before you continue with the unlocking. You can use RedSn0w for this as well.

Apple launched latest version of iTunes to Windows and Mac users worldwide. This update does not introduce anything important, instead it is only meant to iron out some minor bugs and add small scale fixes. In previous iTunes versions it was near impossible to add custom designs to audio files, which are particularly useful for small label albums which don’t have they own designs. Another fix is that now you’ll be able to use non standard keyboards, which presented problems because of their different media keys. For Windows PC users this upgrade introduces new version of Quick Time 7.7 which adds additional security improvements.
Interestingly this version of iTunes was released only a couple of weeks after the release of iTunes version 4.1. iTunes 4.1 introduced a bunch of new improvements for both PC users and Mac users, but with the main focus on Mac users. It also had to integrate iTunes with new features made available with the recent release of latest Mac OS X which is OS X Lion.
If you decide to upgrade, and this is highly recommended, even if you are a jailbreak user, you should simply start the software update and you will receive a notification on availability of the new iTunes version 10.4.1 and then you have only to click on “install”. The rest will be done automatically on your computer. And after a couple of minutes your system will be updated and ready to serve you your multimedia content.
Enjoy!

In order to patch some newly found security issues Apple has just pushed the upgrade for iOS version 4.3.5 for GSM and 4.2.10 for CDMA iPhone,iPad and iPod Touch. What is unusual with this upgrade is that it came only a couple of days after Apple has launched iOS 4.3.4. If you follow all current news in the iPhone unlock and jailbreak world, you probably already know that the sole reason for iOS 4.3.4 upgrade was closing the jailbreak with JailbreakMe 3.0 solution developed by Comex which enabled users to quickly jailbreak any iOS device including iPad 2 for the first time.
Apple mentions few reasons for this release: vulnerability hole related to networking certifications and SSL related problems, as well as other minor bug fixes.
There is no need to hurry and upgrade to this jailbreak, especially not if you depend on your jailbreak and unlock. Better to wait for a new jailbreak solution for this firmware before you decide to upgrade. You can get the upgrade through iTunes. Just launch iTunes and choose to upgrade your device. We hope we will soon have a working jailbreak solution for this iOS version.

If you didn’t save SHSH blobs for your device with TinyUmbrella you wont be able to restore, downgrade or upgrade your device to this firmware version. As you probably know Apple has decided to release an upgrade to their mobile iOS couple of days ago. The main reason for this upgrade was to block easy jailbreaking through the jailbreakme.com website, as this jailbreak was able to jailbreak even iPad 2 which was impossible to jailbreak with other tools like RedSn0w, PwnageTools and other.
Also users which decided to experiment with iOS 5 beta will have trouble downgrading their device. Again, if they weren’t careful enough and didn’t save SHSH blobs on their devices they wont be able to downgrade to 4.3.3. Good news for them is that they still can downgrade the firmware but unfortunately they will be able to restore only to iOS 4.3.4.
iPhone Dev Team has published an updated version of RedSn0w jailbreak which is able to jailbreak 4.3.4 firmware but the jailbreak is only a tethered one, meaning that every time you turn of your device you’ll need to boot it up through the same RedSn0w jailbreaking process.
If you didn’t upgrade your device yet, you shouldn’t do it at all. At this moment this update wont benefit you in any way, as it doesn’t introduce any improvement. The only reason Apple has upgraded was to block users from jailbreaking their devices. SO if you care about the jailbreak and unlock do not upgrade! Also it is highly advisable to save the SHSH blobs on your device while it is still possible. You can find instructions on how to use TinyUmbrella for this in our blogs archive, alongside with many instructions and guides for jailbreaking and unlocking your iPhone or iPad.

The game should be released before Easter and will be available for download on iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad.
