Ac1dSn0w Beta 2 jailbreak tool launched

Ac1dSn0w jailbreak for iOS 5

Here  is another jailbreak option for iPhone users. It is an alternative to well known ReedSn0w jailbreak (for Windows and Mac) and Sn0wBreeze jailbreak (Windows PC only) solution. It was developed and released by group a of jailbreak developers which is known as Pwn Dev Team. This is the second version of the jailbreak as the first version had some serious flaws. Namely Ac1dSn0w has originally contained many lines of Apple‘s proprietary code, thus making the software vulnerable to copyright disputes.

This upgraded version is certainly a step in good direction as Apple’s code is now completely removed from the software. Some other bugs are also removed as a number of users reported earlier that this tool didn’t work for them. The console view of Ac1dSn0w has also being upgraded and now it displays more precisely what is really going on during the jailbreaking process.

So it seems that Ac1dSn0w is now as good as other jailbreak tools, as it provides a flawless tethered jailbreak for iPhone on iOS 5. Unfortunately, same as other jailbreak solutions, it still doesn’t work for iPhone 4S. This jailbreak tool supports following iOS devices:  iPhone 4, iPod Touch 4G and the original iPad. Another interesting information coming from Pwn Dev Team is that in the future this jailbreak could be done over the internet, meaning that you will be able to help your friends to jailbreak their device no matter where they are located, providing that both of your devices are connected to the internet.

Another improvement with beta 2 of  Ac1dSn0w is that the download file is much smaller now. After all being done and said, Ac1dSn0w is working just like any other jailbreak already available, with the difference being only in the user interface which looks somewhat different. We probably see soon enough how will it work in the real world! Please note: Ac1dSn0w works only on Mac computers at this moment.

iOS 5 jailbreak tweaks: kill all background running apps

WeKillBackground iOS 5 jailbreak tweak

Notifications system is among one of the best and most important upgrades we have seen with iOS 5. Some people would say that Apple has a lot to thank for different ideas to the jailbreak community, as many ideas were tested in the real world before Apple released it with their official apps. iOS 5 Notification Center features a pull down menu that is now place where all notifications are located. This new system is exceedingly intuitive but has a great potential for further improvements via serious of small but interesting tweaks like the one we will explore next.

WeeKillBackground is a new tweak within Cydia app store and it attempts to improve things for jailbreak users even further. This tweak when activated will immediately terminate all apps running in the background therefore freeing your iPhone resources for more important tasks or simply to conserve some energy. This will be especially important to newbies which hoard apps and use them like they have infinite resources on their iOS devices. If you tend to launch many different apps every day there are great chances your iPhone will run many useless tasks in the background. This will slow down your iPhone considerably and it will also consume the energy stored in your iPhone battery in a short time.

You wont get any new icon on your home screen after you install this handy tweak. You can configure the tweak in the usual way, by navigating to the Settings app. When installed you can use it simply by opening Notification Center and tapping on “Tap to kill apps” option. Keep in mind that this is a jailbreak tweak only so you will have to jailbreak your iOS 5 iPhone before you can use it. To jailbreak your device we recommend RedSn0w for Mac and Windows. Please feel free to use guides and manuals you can find in our blog archives.

IOS 5 introduces Photo editing

iOS 5 logo

Among other new capabilities iOS 5 will introduce another interesting and cool feature. When you upgrade to iOS 5 you will be able to work on your photos directly on your iOS device.

Apple‘s engineers have used the Core Image component which is natively available in OS X and built it into the iOS, thus allowing iOS Photos app to execute some simple photo editing tasks. To try it out just tap on the edit option at the top of the picture and you will have access to a number of photo editing tools.

Here are some of the new picture editing options:

  • Rotate your image.
  • Auto enhance to balance your images.
  • Automatic red eye removal tool, to remove the annoying flash induced effect.
  • Crop your images if you need to remove some unwanted parts of your photos.

As always, this iOS photo editing tools are only the tipp of the iceberg, the most basic tools there are. For any advanced and demanding task you will have to get some specialized app to help you fulfil your requests. But anyway, this photo editing capability comes free and as a part of your iOS, so why not make the best use of it?

Let us know what do you think. Did you already upgraded to iOS 5 beta? Did you try out Photo Editing?

iOS 5 b2 features: wireless Recovery mode

iPhone recovery mode

iOS 5 has introducing some mayor upgrades including the possibility of iOS upgrades through the 3G and Wi-fi connection wireless syncing and much more. Now we have read about the possibility for a wireless way of entering iDevices into Recovery mode. This can be done with RecBoot on iPhones running the latest iOS 5 beta version 2. At this moment this can be done only on Mac computers.

If you want to jailbreak your device you must put your device into DFU  (DeviceFirmware Update) mode, not into Recover mode, so this probably wont be used by jailbreak developers for developing a new wireless jailbreaking tool. It seems that Apple has increased it efforts to make iOS completely Windows PC free device. If you can upgrade and sync the data on your iPhone without a Windows PC this is a step in good direction for Apple. We can’t agree more.

Wireless syncing and jailbreaking? Is there anything else we could wish for? Sounds like jailbreakers dream. Do you agree?

New iOS 5 improves perfomances of Web Apps

iPhone iOS 5

Some prominent iOS app developers have publicly confirmed that Apple‘s next big iOS upgrade, the iOS 5 for iPhone and iPad successfully resolves some pressing performance issues with apps on the Home Screen. This shows that the web app system which runs out of the Safari browser entails exactly the same dynamic code signing privileges available in Safari and that it also can run the improved Nitro Java Script engine for it’s purposes. On the other side, standard apps which require web based view probably wont improve its performance on the account of this improvement.

The low performance problems started with complaints mostly among developers which were working on HTML 5 apps and also among developers whose apps extended out of Safari. It remains to be seen how will these improvements work in the real world.
