One of the most important weekly magazines in US has already sold more than 20 000 yearly subscriptions for their iPad app after the remodelling of their iPad subscription strategies. More thank 20 000 readers on iPad tablets have purchased subscription for $60 which comes with the news on society and literature. The app also comes in a weekly format and this is preferable to approximately 6000 buyers which have to pay $4.99 for each single issue.
New Yorker has reaped most subscribers among the magazines and this could be because of the nature of the magazine itself. New Yorker was always heavy on writing, and the app designer have avoided unnecessary interactive content and annoying graphics, which is often problematic with online content. Could this show the future of online magazines and their editorial styles? We think the answer is yes. Hopefully we are going back to the conditions where it matters more how the text is written than how is it presented.
In the words of Pamela Mafei McCarthy, one of the magazines key editors, what they did was to create an app which focuses solely on reading. Some graphic details are still available inside it, but the focus is completely on high quality writing and articles which are viewable in a clean and readable way. Good thinking!

As we all know Apple is amazingly popular platform and even better it gets more satisfied users month after month. This is great but also sometimes new users get confused by their new iOS toys. So we have decided to write some short explanations from time to time which should help new users to do a simple everyday tasks. As they say it is easy if you know it, if you don’t it seems impossible.
Here is our first tip.
Question: How do I remove an app from my iPhone? Some apps are just simply irritating and inefficient and you want to get rid of it no matter what. Here is how to do it in a few simple steps.
First, let me tell you, this will work on all iOS devices including: iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad.
First locate the icon of the app you would like to remove. Press the icon and wait until it starts to move slightly. Can you see the small “X” sign on the left side of the icon? Now tap this sign and a notification will follow immediately letting you know that you are about to delete the app and all data connected to it (your app username and password, game results etc.).
If you have decided to permanently remove the app touch “Delete”. If you have suddenly changed your mind, choose “Cancel”. If you wanted to cancel the removal process just press the Home to go back to your springboard.
We are always on the search for more great app’s. I have just recently stumbled upon a great online network for music sharing. Grooveshark will let you search for music, listen to it and recommend the music you enjoy to others with similar tastes. You will be able to install this app only after you jailbreak your iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch. You can jailbreak with Redsn0w or Greenpois0n depending on your iDevice model and iOS version.
With Grooveshark, users are able to upload their favourite songs to web servers and then search among literally thousands of them. You will be able to find true gems and even songs that are very hard or impossible to find otherwise.
Grooveshark is free to desktop users but for your iPhone it will cost you $9 every month. If you have a good connection with 3G speeds you will be able to listen to the streams while you go around on your business. It means that you can just download anything you wish instead of storing it on your iPhone. If the monthly fee is not to high for you and you enjoy having latest hits while driving around this will be a great hit for you.
You can install Grooveshark by tapping Cydia and search your repositories for the app.
There was a great app in the Cydia called Make it Mine which was used for renaming the carrier network on your iPhone. Unfortunately it stopped working after the upgrade to the iOS 4.2.1
So I was quite happy to find about a new tweak named Fake Operator. It allows you to change the name of your carrier (eg. Verizon or AT&T) to any other name you choose. So you do not need any specific app for this but instead you can easily change this setting according to your personal choice.
Faker Operator will not add a new icon on your springboard but instead you will be able to change carrier name by tapping on the iPhone Settings icon.
You can find the Fake Operator app in the Cydia if you add the BigBoss repo. Even better this is a free app. It will work on your iPhone as well as on iPod and your iPad too.
To get this app you will have to jailbreak your iPhone. Another small reason to jailbreak. You can jailbreak your iPhone with the GreenPois0n untethered jailbreak.
If so you will be glad to hear this. Now there is an iPhone app which helps religious catholic users with their confession. It was unofficially approved by the catholic bishop in Indianapolis, IN.
The app is named: “Confession: A Roman Catholic App” and it walks Catholics through the sacrament of confession.
According the the company which has developed the app, it was made not to replace the church sacrament but to aid it. Patrick Leinen, the main developer behind the app said that it has already helped some people with improving religious devotion. This idea came to him after he heard Pope Benedict XVI’s World Communications Address on 24 January.
Unsurprisingly Vatican has offered it’s disagreement with this practice. The Vatican spokesperson said that catholic believers cant confess through iPhone and technology and that nothing can replace persons confession in the church in front of a priest.
Price of the app is $1.99 and it claims to be “the perfect aid for every penitent”.
Dead Space is a long awaited console game finally ported to iPhone and iPad. All you lovers of zombies and Resident Evil fans will certainly enjoy in this third-person horror sci-fi shooter. Your character is a scientist who is fighting alien zombie monsters in deep mines and caves of Titan. In this game you will learn to master all important life skills like shooting alien zombies with laser guns, learning telekinesis and blowing things up. Atmosphere of the game is dark and futuristic at the same time and your character in the game will sometimes even have to solve problems while floating in zero gravity environment. Very powerful stuff!
The game has excellent graphic and interesting game mechanic, despite the combat tactic required being somewhat over complicated. Beware of the undead aliens jumping on you from tunnels and hidden corners! The extremely well designed sound effects and background music will play with your feelings so we don’t recommend you to enjoy this game all alone in a dark place. Playing with headphones on will significantly improve the scary effects. Dead Space is a game which is surprisingly well ported to iPad and iPhone and will you some good time if you love this kind of games.
You can find Dead Space in the App store for only $6.99 for the iPhone version and $9.99 for the iPad version.
