Jailbroken iPhones are the way to go because of its ability to install very useful apps and tweaks like this new Cydia tweak that switches the multitasking bar to landscape mode from portrait mode on the iPhone and iPod.
This tweak unfortunately is not available on the iPad; better luck next time! Since the tweak can only be purchased by accessing the Cydia App Store via the BigBoss repository, your iPhone or iPod touch should be a jailbroken one to be able to enjoy the nifty feature this latest app brings with it. The Switcher Rotator app for iPhones and iPods is available for just $0.99 in the Cydia App store.
With this app, as you would have guessed from its name, you would be able to switch the portrait position of the multitasking toolbar into the landscape mode. You don’t have to worry about the presence of any extra icons added to your already crowded screen and it is self configured with no further assistance needed in that respect. Also, you are now able to lock your iPhone or iPod while you’re using it in the landscape position through this useful app.
Other jailbreaking apps such as the SwitcherPlus, the SwitcherMod and the SBSwitcher are able to work in tandem with this superbly convenient app. But you should know that for SwitcherRotator to work on the iPhone and the iPod the OS version should be above iOS 4.2.1 or else it isn’t supported. If your iPhone isn’t jailbroken but you still want to use this app then you can do that by using software’s from Redsn0w 0.9.7 or Greenpois0n RC5. The newly released PwnageTool 4.2 for Mac OS CX / Sn0wbreeze for Windows needs to be used for jailbreaking your iOS apparatus if the Ultrasn0w carrier unlock is used.
People are jailbreaking their iPhones for various reasons, but have you ever give a thought that you could improve on your security if you jailbreak? iOS is quite a safe OS but sometimes this simply isn’t enough. You will always have to think about increasing your data safety. Now you can increase your data security with a screen locking tweak if you have a jailbroken iPhone.
Exactly for this purpose we have found a new app which was released recently. It’s called shortly,Move Lock Screen To Unlock and it is available in your friendly Cydia store. This new tweak will allow you to lock your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad screen in a cool new way. We all are used to the usual gesture, slide to unlock, but this new tweak will enable you to sweep the entire screen in order to unlock it.
This new Cydia app was developed by a developer Sirpreis and is a great addition to your jailbroken iPhone. Interestingly it will also let you keep your old slide to unlock option, so you can choose among different options all the time.
This app is available in Cydia App Store within ModMyi repo and it costs only $0.99
This app is not available in the iTunes app store but only with Cydia so this means that you need to jailbrake your device if you didn’t already do so.
You can follow our instructions for installing Cydia which is explained in another post.
You can find out how to jailbreak with most current software tools: Greenpois0 or with RedSn0w.
Steve Jobs has explained in a open letter to the media why did he choose not to allow usage of Adobe Flash based content in the iOS ecosystem. Main reason is that Flash is simply not an open web standard with everything that comes with this problematic situation. Also flash is not technically well developed and has its own tech related issues. Flash content will drain your iDevice batteries 50% faster than if you use more developed video format H.264.
This is all reasonable and well but smetimes you just want to use a flash content full website and you dont wont to spend time on your desktop computer for this. Here is a clever and simple way to do it.
iOS flash video is a bookmarklet which is a great way to watch flash video on your iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch. With this trick you will be able to watch video on Daily motion, Vimeo, Metacafe and so on. Surprisingly you wont even need to jailbreak your iDevice to make this work for you.
Please follow this simple steps to enable this tweak:
Start your Safari Browser and go to http://iosflashvideo.fw.hu/
Add this website to your Bookmarks. ( In case you are a iDevice newbie here is how to do it: tap the + sign , choose “Add Bookmark” and then tap “Save” ).
Afetr you add the bookmark you will need to edit it. Choose Bookmarks again, press the Edit option and tap the iOSflashvideo you just bookmarked. Then just delete everything except the javascript in the url of this bookmark. You are done, as promised it is quite easy but powerful.
When you visit some website with flash video content you will see a blanc space on your screen. If you want to enjoy the video on this website open your bookmarks and tap on iOSFlashVideo. You will now see the flash video on this site. Enjoy!
