Untethered jailbreak for iPhone 4S and iPad 2 almost ready for launch!

iPhone A5

After solving a couple of last obstacles, iPhone Dev Team jailbreak developers have announced on their website that the work on the new jailbreak is almost done. The only reason the jailbreak hasn’t being launched yet are a few, more or less simple bugs which need to be ironed out before making the jailbreak available to the public.

To make this solution work for as many people as possible, developers have worked on parallel tracks. iPhone Dev Team has created a command line interface which will enable users to jailbreak their devices by following a number of simple steps. The reason for doing it in this manner, is that it makes thing easier easier for developers to catch remaining bugs. After this is solved, the jailbreak will be implemented into the new version of RedSn0w jailbreak software. We are sure most users will have to wait for this solution to be added into RedSn0w, as the command line interface is probably too complicated jailbreak tool for  average iOS users. Chronic Dev Team on the other side, has implemented Corona jailbreak into an app which works on your PC or your Mac computer.

Jailbreak for A5 devices will be available for iPhone 4S on iOS version 5.0, 5.0.1. Corona will support iPad 2 on 5.0.1 firmware version only. Stay tuned to our blog, and we will inform you as soon as the jailbreak is released! Please note: if you have iPhone 4S you should keep it on iOS version 5.0 if you need the carrier unlock. This unlock should also become available soon, but it will work only for users with the lowest version of the modem firmware!

7. After a short wait, this will be done and  RedSn0w will save the custom made firmware file in the same folder where you saved the official IPSW file. The custom firmware file you just made will have the contain your original modem firmware (baseband) you wanted to save in order to be able to unlock later with UltraSn0w.

8.  After you confirm with OK you will be back on the screen with options again. This time select Pwned DFU mode. This will help you to restore your iPhone to the created custom firmware. Follow the DFU instructions carefully.

9. If your device is indeed in DFU mode, the screen will become completely black. Open your iTunes and press and hold shift and restore. Point iTunes to the custom made 5.0.1 firmware. Itunes will now restore your iPhone 3GS to the custom iOS 5.0.1. You are done and your iPhone is upgraded to iOS 5.0.1 with the baseband preserved. Another Dev Team release: Redsn0w 0.9.9b9b for jailbreaking iPhone iPad and iPod Touch

RedSn0w 0.9.9b9

Jailbreak dev group, better known as iPhone Dev Team have again made us happy with a new update to their well known RedSn0w jailbreak tool. This instalment of the jailbreak introduces a number of incremental improvements as well as a support for latest iOS 5.0.1 firmware. Since Apple is lately focused on upgrading iOS, activities from jailbreak community have to be as frequent as never before, just for them to stay in the loop and gain an upper hand over Apple. And RedSn0w is again doing exactly that. Please note: this version of RedSn0w is still only a tethered jailbreak, so whenever you turn off your device o restart it you need to use plug it into your computer and choose “Just boot tethered”.

Most important feature of this jailbreak tool is that it now jailbreaks iPhone and iPad running iOS 5.0.1. In earlier versions of RedSn0w when you wanted to jailbreak you had to point it to the iOS 5.0 firmware. This isn’t the case now, so you can use iOS 5.0.1 right away. Another great help to jailbreakers is the fact that you can use this software for downgrading the firmware on your device with the previously saved SHSH blobs.

If you are still waiting for a untethered jailbreak, you will need to wait for  @pod2g to finish his upcoming untethered jailbreak . According to the latest rumors, Pod2g is busy working on his new solution and it is expected that it could soon become available to all users. However, we wont hold our breath and even weeks could pass before  pod2g releases a stable untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.0.1 devices. Stay tuned as we guide you through the world of Apple device jailbreaking.

Untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.0.1 confirmed!

We are quite happy to announce to our readers that the untethered jailbreak is underway as it is being tested and developed by Pod2g, one of the best jailbreak developers out there. Hi has just confirmed in his Twitter stream that the jailbreak he tested on his iPod 3G works also on iPhone 4 iOS upgraded to 5.0.1. According to this news, this jailbreak will work only on A4 based devices, meaning that if you have iPhone 4S or iPad 2, this wont work for you at this time. Here is his tweet about the breakthrough:

Jailbreak tweet 5.0.1

Please be careful: if you are iPhone user depending on the carrier unlock with UltraSn0w, you should not upgrade to iOS 5.0.1 with Apple‘s official firmware file. As always it is quite important and highly recommended to users to save their SHSH blobs. You can use TinyUmbrella (Mac and Windows) or iFaith (Windows only) apps for this.

We certainly hope we wont wait too long for this new untethered jailbreak tool to be released! What is your opinion on this? Are you eager to get an untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.0.1?

Ac1dSn0w Beta 2 jailbreak tool launched

Ac1dSn0w jailbreak for iOS 5

Here  is another jailbreak option for iPhone users. It is an alternative to well known ReedSn0w jailbreak (for Windows and Mac) and Sn0wBreeze jailbreak (Windows PC only) solution. It was developed and released by group a of jailbreak developers which is known as Pwn Dev Team. This is the second version of the jailbreak as the first version had some serious flaws. Namely Ac1dSn0w has originally contained many lines of Apple‘s proprietary code, thus making the software vulnerable to copyright disputes.

This upgraded version is certainly a step in good direction as Apple’s code is now completely removed from the software. Some other bugs are also removed as a number of users reported earlier that this tool didn’t work for them. The console view of Ac1dSn0w has also being upgraded and now it displays more precisely what is really going on during the jailbreaking process.

So it seems that Ac1dSn0w is now as good as other jailbreak tools, as it provides a flawless tethered jailbreak for iPhone on iOS 5. Unfortunately, same as other jailbreak solutions, it still doesn’t work for iPhone 4S. This jailbreak tool supports following iOS devices:  iPhone 4, iPod Touch 4G and the original iPad. Another interesting information coming from Pwn Dev Team is that in the future this jailbreak could be done over the internet, meaning that you will be able to help your friends to jailbreak their device no matter where they are located, providing that both of your devices are connected to the internet.

Another improvement with beta 2 of  Ac1dSn0w is that the download file is much smaller now. After all being done and said, Ac1dSn0w is working just like any other jailbreak already available, with the difference being only in the user interface which looks somewhat different. We probably see soon enough how will it work in the real world! Please note: Ac1dSn0w works only on Mac computers at this moment.

TinyUmbrella updated, now supporting latest iOS 5.0.1 beta

TinyUmbrellla

@Semaphore, the developer behind TinyUmbrellla app has just released an upgrade to his superb software for saving SHSH blobs which is fully compatible with the beta version of Apple iOS 5.0.1.

To remind you SHSH blobs are essential whenever you want to downgrade your devices iOS version. Namely, Apple is not allowing users to downgrade iOS, as this procedure helps in some cases with the jailbreak and unlock procedures. So to counter Apple, jailbreak dev community has found some other ways to downgrade the firmware, but it is essential for users to save SHSH blobs or otherwise they wont be able to go back to older jailbreakable and unlockable iOS versions.

To remind you, TinyUmbrella is available for both users on Mac and Windows PC. So hurry up and save the SHSH blobs of your devices just to be on the safe side, and to be able to jailbreak and unlock your device when you decide it is time to do so!
