Shall I Jailbreak my iPhone?

Saturday, May 2nd, 2009

Many newbie iPhone users are wondering whether they should Jailbreak or not. Instead of explaining and writing down why you get more from your jailbroken iPhone we have decided to expose some of the most valuable apps which you can get if you Jailbreak your iphone. Here is our list which could be much longer but for the sake of efficiency will focus on apps we value the most.

PdaNet – This one of the most used apps on other brands of smart phones. Basically it turns your iphone in a full power wireless router. Install PDA Net from Cydia, create an ad-hoc network on your laptop, use the WiFi settings to connect your iphone to this network and enjoy full 3G speed on your computer.

Hood – is a small but useful lightweight tool which enables you to look under the hood of the iphone and control your device without complicated procedures. You can turn out the Edge without touching
your APN settings, access Process List where you can terminate any unwanted processes etc.

Video Recorder 3G – One serious disadvantage of iPhone is the lack of video capturing capabilities. As someone said this is Video Recorder 3G is an semi answer to this problem. Video Recorder is an app which will make the most of your iphone camera.

Search – If you are like most people and have a ton of useful info on your iphone and sometimes have to invest to much time to find what you need Search is the right app for you. It will search, SMS, Events, Bookmarks and browser History Contacts Notes and even your email.
Definitely helpful!

Clippy – This app will add something that is a serious nuisance oniphones, the lack of copy / paste option . Tapp and hold the 123 on the virtual keyboard and Clippy will show you the copy/past menu.

Winterboard – Is a tool which enables you to customize your iphone theme just like you would do in your Windows PC. Add a video wallpaper, change the appearance of your keyboard, customize the system sounds or do a lot of other possible tweaks which will make your iphone look and sound unique.

Flashlight – who would say that you could use your expensive iphone as an ordinary flashlight? But its good to know that in an emergency you are always wearing a flash light in your pocket.

SwirlyMMS - gives you the ability to send and receive photos, audio and video files to your friends. This was a possibility that was considered as a serious draw back for iphones. Jailbreak and install wirlyMMS from Cydia and you will fix this problem at last.

Customization, MMS, copy/paste, video capturing, connectivity…Basically jailbreaking will add, partially or fully what is missing in your iphone.

What is 3G

What is 3G?
The meaning of 3G and 4G Explained.
The new generation iPhones are known to work on 3G Speed.
In simple terms, 3G stands for “3rd Generation”.

With 3G, one can enjoy video calling, high-speed video streaming,
and mobile internet 6 times faster than the current GSM / GPRS networks.

First generation iPhones will only work via the slower GSM/GPRS networks, while the new 3G iPhone can operate on 3G speeds.

More specific:

3G is the  ITU (International Telecommunication Union specification) for the Third generation mobile communications technology.
3G offers the highest network speed on mobile devices. Maximum speeds of 2 Mbps can be reached ( on a fixed location) while the device can reach download speeds of 384 Kbps on a moving device.

3G will work over several wireless air interfaces such as GSM, and CDMA ( Please note: the iPhone will never work on CDMA networks ( like Verizon wireless), becourse this radio technology is not compatible with the iphone). The latest  EDGE air interface has been developed specifically to meet the bandwidth needs of 3G.

3G Technology is not available everywhere yet: Most countries in Europe have good 3G networks with large coverage, but carriers like T-mobile in the US can only offer 3G speeds in certain Areas and certain cities.

4G technology is currently in development, and stands to be the future standard of wireless devices.
This Technology will beat the current 3G network speeds multiple times. 4G networks have not been standarised yes, and my expectation is that the 4G networks will become available to the public around 2012.
